5 simple ways to stay well through the holiday season

Posted December 7, 2023

The holiday season is once again here!

With Christmas parties, social events, trips to plan and shopping to do, it’s easy to forget the daily rituals that keep you well and healthy in mind, body and soul.

Whether you’re at home or away these holidays, here are 5 simple tips to staying well so that you can enjoy the festive season.

1. Protect your skin in the sunshine

We love our sun drenched country but remember to take care of your skin and protect it from harsh UV rays this summertime:

  • Put on a hat when you’re outdoors
  • Apply sunscreen to your face, neck and other areas exposed to the sun
  • Stay out of the sun in the middle of the day when the UV factor is highest (6+)
  • Wear your sunnies to protect your eyes.

2. Eat well and just enough

The holidays are a time when we are most likely to binge eat. Who can say no to Grandma’s second helping of her perfectly delicious Christmas fruit cake, or your Auntie’s kourabiethes? ‘Tis the season to enjoy food but balance this out with plenty of salads and vegetables to facilitate digestion and maintain good tummy health. And you don’t have to eat everything on your plate either!

3. Stay hydrated

Replenishing your body with enough water each day is essential for good health. Not only does it maintain good energy levels, but it also helps your body to cope better with Christmas parties and other holiday social events which often go hand in hand with more food and alcohol.

Water has many roles in the body – it helps you absorb nutrients, it aids good digestion, assists detoxification, and supports good skin health.

The amount of water varies from person to person but on average, women should drink between 6-8 glasses a day, men about 10 glasses, and children between 4-6 glasses depending on their height and weight.

4. Move your body

Keep moving these summer holidays. If you’re travelling and away from home, get your walking shoes on, enjoy the sightseeing, breathe in fresh air and exercise at the same time. If you’re home these holidays and can’t get to the gym or yoga because the kids are with you, do some yoga or Pilates online and the kids might join in too. You’ll find plenty of online classes, both free and paid.

5. Look after your skin

You’ll feel better about yourself over the holiday season if you continue your skincare routine. The summer holidays can be stressful with Christmas, the kids at home, more laundry to do, a messy house and relatives visiting on top of all that! Stress shows up in your skin and if you replenish it daily with much needed nutrients, it will reward you with a glow!

We’ve created a skincare routine for all skin types which you can find here.
