Rosehips are the fruit of the rose bush which grow just underneath the petals and remain long after the plant has died.

They are small, round and reddish in colour and look like cranberries. Kosmea grows the Rosa Canina variety, which produces a better quality rosehip, packed with nutritional botanicals that have many benefits for the skin.

Our rose bushes grow high up in the mountains of Lesotho in Southern Africa, wild and free. Local families handpick the rosehips and rely on this harvest for their living.

The nutrients in Rosehip Oil that are beneficial for your skin

Rosehips are full of goodness for the skin and were used by ancient cultures as an anti-ageing remedy, to soothe many skin conditions and to nourish the hair.

Rosehip Oil contains:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Oleic acid
  • Palmitic acid
  • Linoleic acid
  • Gamma linolenic acid

Why Kosmea’s Rosehip Oil is the best in the world

A natural source of vitamin A (tretinoin)

Rosehip Oil is rich in vitamin A (trans-retinoic acid or tretinoin) and the latest research shows that tretinoin helps to prevent premature ageing caused by sun exposure and the ageing process by stimulating collagen manufacture. When skin is exposed to the sun, it can increase levels of enzymes that lead to the breakdown of collagen and elastin. Vitamin A in Rosehip Oil reduces the activity of these enzymes and stimulates collagen production which boosts skin cell regeneration.

High in essential fatty acids

Rosehip Oil is rich in essential fatty acids which are grouped into Omega 3 and 6 and called oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid, and gamma linolenic acid. The body cannot produce these essential fatty acids itself and their anti-inflammatory properties help skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Kosmea’s Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is guaranteed to contain a minimum of 80% essential fatty acids.

“The use of Rosehip Oil for the skin dates back to ancient times. The Egyptians and Romans understood the powerful restorative and regeneration properties of rosehip.”

Full of antioxidants

Rosehip Oil contains antioxidants which are micronutrients that protect tissues in the body from the damaging effects of free radicals. Free radicals are caused by environmental pollution, dehydration, and sun damage. Antioxidants including beta-carotene and lycopene protect the skin from the effects of these free radicals..

Natural anti-inflammatory properties

Essential fatty acids in Rosehip Oil play an important role as anti-inflammatory agents which is why it is so good for oily and acne prone skin, or skin with psoriasis and dermatitis. Rosehip Oil reduces the formation and appearance of scars and if used when a wound is healing, it will prevent infection which causes further scarring, and will soften the skin so that it doesn’t tear as it heals.

The benefits of Rosehip Oil for your skin

Healthy skin has a strong network of collagen and elastin fibres but environmental factors such as sun damage and pollution cause this network of collagen to break down and the elastin molecules to reduce in number. Over time and with exposure, the skin loses its supple texture.

Benefit 1: Rosehip Oil has anti-ageing properties

Rosehip Oil is rich in Vitamin A or trans-retinoic acid which stimulates collagen production and science has shown that the skin readily absorbs vitamin A when applied topically.

Kosmea’s Rosehip Oil has 10X more vitamin A than any other Rosehip Oil in the market so that your skin receives all the nourishment that vitamin A provide

Benefit 2: Rosehip Oil helps reduce the impact of sun damage

Up to 90% of sun damage has already been done by the time a person reaches eighteen years of age and sun exposure is the most common reason for premature ageing. We need the sun for vitamin D production to help maintain good bone density, but it takes a toll in our skin.

Rosehip Oil helps to reduce the impact of sun damage. Vitamin A and essential fatty acids help the regeneration of collagen and elastin fibres to keep skin firm and youthful.

Benefit 3: Rosehip Oil evens out skin tone and blemishes

Rosehip is a natural source of vitamin A and vitamin C, antioxidants which encourage skin cell regeneration to even the skin tone and irregular pigmentation. Vitamin A boosts collagen and elastin production to restore freshness and vitality to your skin.

Benefit 4: Rosehip Oil reduces the appearance of scars

The sooner you use Rosehip Oil on a wound, the less risk of a scar developing, especially for wounds that are healing. By using Rosehip Oil daily, the wound stays hydrated as it heals to prevent tearing the skin which leads to scarring.

Vitamin A has an important role to play here too. It promotes collagen production and new skin growth to help reduce or prevent both new and old scars that have been caused by acne, stretch marks or burns.

Benefit 5: Rosehip Oil soothes acne inflammation

Oily or acne prone skin does not need more oil stripped off, which sounds counter-intuitive. Stripping oils from your skin will cause your skin to produce even more oils. Oils are needed to protect the skin, so the skin goes into “over-protective” mode if it doesn thave enough. The high levels of vitamin A in Rosehip Oil balance the production of sebum in your skin, while essential fatty acids reduce redness, sensitivity and inflammation.

Benefit 6: Rosehip Oil soothes eczema and dermatitis

Rosehip Oil provides relief from the symptoms of eczema and dermatitis and is safe for both adults and baby skin. Eczema and dermatitis occur in skin that is low in essential fatty acids and dehydrated. In normal skin, the skin barrier keeps moisture locked but in skin with eczema, this is compromised which causes flaking and scaly skin.
